The Tortoise & the Ducks

A tortoise lived by a pond.

Uma tartaruga vivia junto a um lago.

Two ducks were his friends.

Dois patos eram seus amigos.

They liked to talk together every day.

Eles gostavam de conversar juntos todos os dias.

One summer, the pond became very dry.

Num verão, o lago ficou muito seco.

There was no water left.

Não havia mais água.

The ducks said,

Os patos disseram,

"We must fly to another pond."

"Devemos voar para outro lago."

"But you cannot fly with us."

"Mas você não pode voar conosco."

The tortoise was sad.

A tartaruga ficou triste.

He said,

Ele disse,

"Please take me with you."

"Por favor, leve-me com você."

"I do not want to stay here alone."

"Eu não quero ficar aqui sozinho."

The ducks thought for a long time.

Os patos pensaram por muito tempo.

Then one duck said,

"We have an idea."

"Temos uma ideia."

"We will hold a stick with our beaks."

"You can bite the middle of the stick."

"Then we can carry you."

The tortoise was happy.

"That is a good plan!"

The ducks found a strong stick.

They told the tortoise,

The ducks picked up the stick.

They began to fly.

They pointed and shouted,

The tortoise heard the people.

He wanted to tell them it was his idea.

He opened his mouth to speak.

The tortoise fell down to the ground.

He was hurt but not dead.

The ducks flew down to help him.
