A father wants to teach his sons an important lesson about working together. He uses a simple bundle of sticks to show them something they will never forget.

A father had many sons.
I figli litigavano sempre tra di loro.
The sons always fought with each other.
Litigavano ogni giorno.
They argued every day.

The father was very sad.

One day, the father called all his sons.

He had a bundle of sticks tied together with rope.
"Prova a rompere questo fascio,"
"Try to break this bundle,"

Il figlio maggiore si impegnò molto.
The oldest son tried very hard.
Non riusciva a rompere il fascio.
He could not break the bundle.
I bastoni erano troppo forti insieme.
The sticks were too strong together.

"You try,"
il padre disse al suo secondo figlio.
the father said to his second son.
Il secondo figlio provò e riprovò.
The second son tried and tried.

He could not break the bundle either.
Tutti i figli cercarono di spezzare il fascio.
All the sons tried to break the bundle.
Nessuno riusciva a farlo. Poi il padre slegò la corda.
No one could do it. Then the father untied the rope.
Ha dato a ogni figlio un bastone.
He gave each son one stick.
"Ora prova a rompere il tuo bastone,"
"Now try to break your stick,"
disse.

Ogni figlio ruppe facilmente il suo bastone.
Each son broke his stick easily.

The single sticks were very weak.

The father looked at his sons.

"When you stay together, you are strong like the bundle."
"Quando combattete e rimanete separati, siete deboli come i singoli bastoni."
"When you fight and stay apart, you are weak like the single sticks."
I figli capirono.
The sons understood.
Hanno smesso di combattere.
They stopped fighting.
Si sono aiutati a vicenda.
They helped each other.
Insieme, erano forti.
Together, they were strong.
