The Boy & the Filberts

Un ragazzo vide un barattolo pieno di noci.

A boy saw a jar full of nuts.

Il barattolo aveva una piccola apertura in cima.

The jar had a small opening at the top.

Il ragazzo mise la mano dentro il barattolo.

The boy put his hand inside the jar.

Afferrò tutte le noci che riusciva a tenere.

He grabbed as many nuts as he could hold.

Ora la sua mano era piena di noci.

Now his hand was full of nuts.

Ma la sua mano era troppo grande per uscire dal barattolo.

But his hand was too big to come out of the jar.

Il ragazzo cercò di tirare fuori la mano.

The boy tried to pull his hand out.

Non riusciva a farlo.

He could not do it.

La sua mano era bloccata.

His hand was stuck.

Il ragazzo iniziò a piangere.

The boy started to cry.

Voleva le noci, ma voleva anche la mano libera.

He wanted the nuts, but he also wanted his hand free.

Un vecchio uomo passò.

An old man walked by.

Vide il ragazzo piangere.

He saw the boy crying.

"Cosa c'è che non va?"

"What is wrong?"

chiese il vecchio.

asked the old man.

"La mia mano è bloccata in questo barattolo,"

"My hand is stuck in this jar,"

disse il ragazzo.

said the boy.

Il vecchio uomo guardò il barattolo.

The old man looked at the jar.

Guardò la mano del ragazzo.

He looked at the boy's hand.

"Lascia andare metà delle noci,"

"Let go of half the nuts,"

disse il vecchio.

said the old man.

Allora la tua mano uscirà.

"Then your hand will come out."

Il ragazzo non voleva lasciare andare le noci.

The boy did not want to let go of the nuts.

Ma alla fine, ne lasciò cadere la metà.

But finally, he dropped half of them.

La sua mano diventò più piccola.

His hand became smaller.

Ora poteva estrarre la mano dal barattolo.

Now he could pull his hand out of the jar.

Il ragazzo era libero.

The boy was free.

Aveva ancora delle noci da mangiare.

He still had some nuts to eat.
